Legal Services Commission

Coventry CAB currently holds 2 contracts funded by the Legal Services Commission (LSC), one contract in debt, the other in welfare benefits. This means we are able to provide specialist help in both these areas to clients who fall within a specific criteria - usually clients on a low or nil income or who are in receipt of benefits. Details of the issues dealt with by each particular contract are shown below by clicking on the appropriate contract type.

To be eligible for assistance from Coventry CAB via the Legal Services Commission clients need to fulfil one or some of the following criteria:

• You are on benefits;

• You have an income below £3,000 per year;

• You have no income at all.

Debt

If eligible, clients requiring assistance with their debts can receive direct help from our LSC debt specialist who can assist with:

• Preparation of financial statements;

• Liaison with creditors;

• Disputing debts;

• Negotiation of reduced payments (if viable);

• Advice on methods of increasing income and/or reducing expenditure.

Welfare Benefits

If eligible, clients requiring assistance with their benefits can receive direct help from our LSC welfare benefits specialist who can assist with:

• Benefit claim form filling

• Benefit claim appeals

• Benefit reviews

• Assesments of benefit entitlement
